Initiative Indonesia - Making Indonesia Healthier: The Face of Reform, Indonesia Health Mission 2023
Jul 11, 2023 / 08:00 - 17:00

Dear AmCham and Initiative Members,

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and AmCham Indonesia will host an in-person health mission: Making Indonesia Healthier: The Face of Reform, July 11-12, 2023 in Jakarta. The Mission will bring together government, healthcare professionals, and key industry players to discuss ways in which we can optimize reform, spur investment, and improve Indonesia’s health infrastructure through patient-driven innovation and quality services.

The initial chaos and crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic provided a powerful boost for reform of Indonesia’s health sector. As we enter the endemic phase of Covid-19, one good outcome has been a new vision of a Healthy Indonesia through the Omnibus Health Bill, now under consideration, which lays out an ambitious agenda on digital transformation, allowing foreign medical professionals to work in Indonesia and finding alternative health financing schemes. Prompted by such potentially sweeping changes, engagements between regulators, health experts, the private sector and other relevant healthcare providers are now greatly needed to ensure effective implementations of reforms going forward.

The mission will focus on the following topics and issues:

  • The Omnibus Health Bill, the Draft Regulation on Food and Drugs Supervision, and their implementing regulations
  • The importance of collaborations for innovative healthcare financing
  • Digital health transformation and the private sector
  • Spurring more investment in the sector and increasing competitiveness
  • Building a patient-centric ecosystem by prioritizing patient access to innovative products and treatments

We will seek meetings with:

  • Budi Gunadi Sadikin – Minister of Health
  • Penny K Lukito – Head of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM)
  • Ambassador Sung Kim – US Ambassador to Indonesia
  • Razilu – Acting Director General of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Law and Human Rights
  • Ignatius Warsito – Acting Director General of Chemical, Pharmacy, and Textile Industries, Ministry of Industry
  • Nurul Ichwan – Deputy Minister for Investment Promotion, Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM)
  • Setiaji – Chief of the Digital Transformation Office (DTO), Ministry of Health
  • Ali Ghufron Mukti – President Director, Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS)
  • Hendrar Prihadi – Head of the National Public Procurement (LKPP)
  • Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena – Member of House of Representatives Commission IX
  • Health Professionals and experts (Dr Lies Dina Liastuti – President Director of RSUPN Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo)
