Indonesia Cautious Over Imported Covid-19 Cases

The government is paying close attention to provinces with significant increases in Covid-19 cases, among them Riau Islands and North Kalimantan, which are seeing imported cases from Malaysia, according to health minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

The Ministry of Health has categorized the 34 provinces into level 1 (safest) to level 4 (highest transmission rate), based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. Fifty confirmed cases daily per 100,000 people is considered level 4. While there are no provinces in level 4, yet, several are categorized as level 3, including Riau Islands with migrant workers returning from Malaysia contributing to imported cases. North Kalimantan is categorized as level 2, but many of the cases are also imported.
