(IN-PERSON) Food and Agriculture Committee Kick-Off Meeting February 2024
February 09, 2024 | by AmCham Webmaster

AmCham members conveyed their concerns on halal certification, noting the deadline for the mandatory certification is October this year for food and beverage products. The private sector view is that the new system administrated by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), especially in regard to the registration of foreign halal certification bodies (FHCBs), is not yet adequate to ensure effective implementation in the coming months.

The committee also discussed the progress of the government’s plan to implement the sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) and plastic excise duties, as well as the issue of import restrictions under Minister of Trade Regulation 36/2023.

The meeting had a good turnout from AmCham’s new and existing members. As well as members from the food and beverage and agriculture sectors, members from the cosmetics, consumer goods, and manufacturing sectors also attended. AmCham will continue observing the progress of the above issues and regulations, and engage with the government and other relevant stakeholders.
